(A quick flash-fiction type thing. I was
trying to keep this under 1000 words. It’s my first Yami no Matsuei fanfic ever
so do be kind when reviewing! Thank you ^_~)

It was September 23. This was the beginning
of the autumnal equinox or ‘Autumn’ as everyone called it [1]. Some people even
called it ‘Fall’. But it didn’t matter what name was chosen. The season was
still the same: cold, colorful, and crisp. It would be filled with trees
shedding their leaves and cool air blowing across the sky. It also meant
Halloween and Thanksgiving were just around the corner.
Kurosaki Hisoka stared at the pile of leaves
in front of him. It look like one colorful ball of yarn, made of red, yellow,
and orange. Or maybe it could have been fire. All of those leaves were the same
color as flames. Except that it was cold. Ironic how such warm colors appeared
at such a cold time.
Asato Tsuzuki, Hisoka’s partner and lover,
was watching as the boy stared at the leaf piles. The trees had lost a lot of
leaves the night before and now were put together in seven neat piles, leaving
more space to walk around without stepping on a leaf. Still, Tsuzuki knew
something was wrong. The way Hisoka was looking at those leaves…it was sad.
Hisoka was sad about something and he didn’t know what. So he decided to go out
and see what was the matter.
The leaves were starting to fall. Red, gold,
orange…they piled up at Hisoka’s feet, all crinkled and dead. But Hisoka could
have cared less. Autumn was just another season. It would come and go just like
the others. Autumn was just dull. Autumn meant nothing to him.
Tsuzuki was standing behind him. Noticing the look on Hisoka’s face, he asked.
“What’s wrong?”
“I don’t feel good.” Hisoka murmured. “Autumn bores me.” Then he said the words
he would regret a few minutes later. “Do
something to cheer me up, Tsuzuki.”
“Cheer you up?”
“Yes, something fun.”
“Something fun…” Tsuzuki smiled. He knew just
what to do. He picked Hisoka up and threw him into a pile of dead leaves.
Before Hisoka could protest, Tsuzuki dumped a bunch of leaves on top of his
head. Then, having the urge to jump in the same pile of leaves, he did.
“You wanted fun, you got it!” He exclaimed.
Hisoka came out from somewhere in that pile and spit out a dead leaf. There
were twigs and acorns in his hair.
”Tsuzuki, you…” He started to stay but Tsuzuki threw a bunch of leaves at him.
Then he tackled him and bought him all the way to the bottom of pile. Hisoka
was still trying to get rid of the leaves off his face. He felt warm lips press
against his. He knew it was Tsuzuki trying to have some romantic time. Finally,
he stopped kissing him and stared into his green eyes, which were glaring at
him.
“Now why were you sad?” He asked again. “Are
you sick?”
“What? No!”
“Did you hurt yourself?”
“No…”
“Did someone hurt you?”
“No but in a few seconds I’m going to hurt you
for shoving me in this mess!”
“I couldn’t help it.” Tsuzuki grinned
sheepishly. “There was that big pile there and you were on the other side. And
you said you wanted me to cheer you up. When I was younger, I used to jump in
big piles of leaves to cheer me up.”
“Really?” Hisoka perked up. This was one of
the rare times that Tsuzuki actually talked about his past. Normally, he hated
doing that. But sometimes, he would talk to Hisoka about it. Especially when he
was down.
“Oh yes. Playing around in them was fun.”
Tsuzuki trailed off. By now, he was
starting to feel sad. So he kissed Hisoka again to make himself feel better.
This was a longer kiss, sweeter and juicy. But the big question still hadn’t been
answered. So Tsuzuki stopped and looked down at Hisoka.
“So why were you sad?” He asked again.
“I was sad because…” He trailed off as
Tsuzuki kissed him. His mouth tasted like dead leaves and twigs but Hisoka
didn’t mind. When Tsuzuki finally stopped kissing him, he answered the
question.
“I was sad because you didn’t kiss me this
morning.” He said.
Tsuzuki blushed. “I forgot and I’m sorry. But
don’t worry about that happening anymore.”
“Why?”
Tsuzuki grinned. “Because the next time I see
you upset, no matter what season it is, I’m going to throw in something: a
pool, snow, whatever. And I’m going to kiss you till you’re happy again.”
Hisoka nodded. “Sounds like a good idea to
me.”
~And for a moment I lose myself
Wrapped up in the pleasures of the world
I've journeyed here and there and back again
But in the same old haunts, I still find my friends~

[1] I believe
I am right about the date of the autumnal equinox. But it takes place around
that time so September 23 does count as a beginning since I didn’t exactly
specify the year this takes place.
