Kiss the Girl

(Hello, everyone! I don't know how many of you dated Aeris in the Gold Saucer but if you have, heck, you know what happens. Well, Cait Sith is going to get involved in a little scheme to get Aeris and Cloud together. I don't own FF7 or the song "Kiss the Girl" from the Little Mermaid. Oh, I'd like to thank Seth Turtle for having the lyrics to this song. Anyway, here I go.)

"Oh, Cloud, I had a wonderful time." Aeris Gainsborough cooed, wrapping one arm around Cloud Strife and letting the other lie flat against her side. “Wasn’t that just fun being in play and acting? I loved it when you kissed me too.”

"Me too." Cloud whispered, trying hard not to show his embarrassment as he remembered the incident. He wasn’t quite thrilled about play as she was. Only Aeris had any ability in acting there. He just went along and tried to act like he enjoyed it. He didn’t though. The only time any of it seemed real, the only time he actually liked it, was when he kissed her hand. It was so soft and delicate...he just loved the touch of it. Now her hand grasped his as she took him to every possible ride there was.

"Oh, let's ride the G Bike!" she exclaimed.

"You sure?" Cloud was uncertain. Aeris didn’t look like the type of girl to enjoy the G Bike. But the way her jade eyes sparkled made it hard for him to say no to her.

"Yes!" She was now bobbing her head up and down like an excited chocobo.

"Um...okay." As soon as he said that, Aeris giggled and dragged him over to where the game was.

As it turned out, Aeris was a lot better at the G Bike game than he was. In fact, she was better in a lot of rides than he was. (Looks can be deceiving, He thought as she got more GP.) They were rolling with GP ever since they started playing.  By now, however, things were starting to cool down. Cloud looked forward to going back to the hotel and getting some rest.

"We should stop, Aeris." Cloud said, taking a deep breath. “Everyone will probably be wondering what happened to us.”  He knew no one was thinking that (except for Tifa and possibly Barret) but it sounded like the right thing to get Aeris to slow down.

"Just one more ride?" She begged, squeezing his arm. "Let's try...the gondola!" She pointed to ride, which was making Cloud feel queasy.

"The gondola?" He asked, making sure that’s what she wanted.

Aeris sighed and started dragging him towards it. "What, do I have to spell it out for you? Yes, the gondola. Just you and me."

You and me, Cloud thought, gulping down a few of his insecurities. Aeris just had to say the three magic words, didn’t she?

We're going to be riding a gondola together. Just me and Aeris together. Damn. We'll be together and we’ll be alone. Now's my chance…

Even still, Cloud wasn’t sure if he could get himself to do what he wanted to do.

"Hello...something is brewing between the happy little world of Cloud and Aeris." Cait Sith said. He'd been spying on the two ever since the date began, namely cause he had nothing better to do in his room. He had planned to play a few games but the site of couple caught his eye and turned out to be far more interesting than anything else at the Gold Saucer. "But I bet Cloudy here is just too shy to say a word to her."

So, without any immediate plans, Cait Sith began thinking of how to bring Cloud and Aeris a tad bit closer. At least it would get rid of his boredom.

What do I do? How do I get them together?  He wondered, watching a bunch of people dressed as Chocobos greeting visitors. Then the idea hit him. Ah ha! I know!

"Hey, you! Chocobo!" He called to one of the Chocobo people walking around. Puzzled, it walked over to him.

"Welcome to the..." The 'Chocobo' began.

"Yeah, whatever.” Cait Sith interrupted. He was tired of hearing that silly greeting time and time again. “Listen up. Gather your Chocobo friends. We've got to lonesome souls that need to be whole...with a song of love."

"Oh, I see. Where are they?" The Chocobo inquired.

"They are heading towards the gondola ride." Cait Sith said smugly. He pointed to where Aeris was dragging Cloud. “There they are.”

The Chocobo nodded. "Perfect. Where will you be?"

"Behind our little couple."

"Okay...” The Chocobo thought about this for a while, then nodded again. “I got it. I’ll go get my friends. I have the perfect song.”

                                                *          *          *

"Two for the gondola please." Aeris said to the attendant. Next to her, Cloud turned as red as Fire Materia. He still couldn’t believe that he and Aeris were going on this gondola ride by themselves.

"Here you go! Enjoy!" The attendant pointed to the gondola that had just come up.

Cloud helped Aeris get in and then climbed in himself. The gondola was small but perfect enough for the two of them. Aeris claimed a seat close to the window while Cloud sat a little further away. He didn't want to be so close to the lights and noise.

Meanwhile, Cait Sith got in a gondola behind the others. It was time to put his plan of love into action.

"I hope those guys know what they are doing. And I hope they can sing." Cait Sith looked out. He commanded them like a conductor an orchestra. "Okay, guys...percussion."

Some chocobos began playing percussion.

"Strings!"

Some were playing violins.

"Winds!"

Then there were some playing flutes.

"Words!"

Once the gondola took off, the music began to play and one of the chocobos began to sing as Cloud and Aeris went by. All the while, Cloud was ignoring Aeris and keeping to himself (which he didn’t want to do).

~There you see her

Sitting there across the way

She don't got a lot to say

But there's something about her

And you don't know why

But you're dying to try

You wanna kiss the girl~

"Oh Cloud, look!" Aeris pointed out the window. "Those chocobos are singing a romantic, love song!"

They're singing? Oh God, no! Cloud thought. But Aeris was right. Those chocobos were warbling as the gondola moved forward. He shuddered as he heard them go into the next verse.

~Yes, you want her.

Look at her

You know you do.

Possible she wants you too

There is one way to ask her

It don't take a word

Not a single word.

Go on and kiss the girl~

"Um...Aeris?" Cloud began. "I hope you had fun."

"I did." She nodded.

I hope you had fun? Geez, Cloud! What was that?! Now, she'll never know how you feel! You dumbass! Try to redeem yourself, he thought. So he asked her another question.

"Aeris...are you cold?"

"No, I'm fine." She shrugged. Cloud felt like beating himself upside the head with the end of his buster sword.

Oh that was better, Cloud! She's the one wearing a jacket, not you! And anyway, couldn't you be more romantic?

"You look...swell." Cloud now looked like an apple with yellow spiky hair thanks to his blushing.

"Oh...thank you." Aeris was confused. That was the first time she ever heard him say something like that to anyone.

Swell? Couldn't you try beautiful or lovely? Why the hell did you go with swell?

Meanwhile, Cait Sith tried to get the chocobos to change their tune a bit. The gondolas were passing by the chocobo races and the two of them still weren’t cuddling.

"Sing, you idiots! Sing!" He yelled. Leaning back in his chair, he sighed. Playing the love doctor was a hard job. Taking his order though, the chocobos sang louder.

~Sha la la la la la, my oh my!

Look at the boy too shy

Ain't gonna kiss the girl!

Sha la la la la la, ain't that sad

Ain't it a shame, too bad

He gonna miss the girl~

"Cloud, look! They're singing!" Aeris exclaimed again.

"I know." Cloud replied, wincing as he listened to the words. "Who are they singing too?"

"Probably to some lucky couple." Aeris reasoned. “Why else would the song be so romantic?”

Tell her, Cloud. It's now or never. Tell her how you feel.

"Aeris?" He cleared his throat and let the color in his face return to normal. Aeris turned around and faced him, her green eyes curious.

"Yes?"

"I...I have something to say." He managed to get out.

"Go on." Aeris waited patiently but Cloud still couldn't get the words out. The chocobos began singing even louder.

~Now's your moment

Floating in the blue lagoon

Boy, you better do it soon

No time would be better

She don't say a word

And she won't say a word

Until you...kiss the girl~

"Aeris, I..."

"You what, Cloud?" Aeris pressured gently.

"I...think you...are very...nice." He managed to get out.

Aeris nodded. "...Thank you."

"No! What I meant was..." Cloud was again at a loss for words.

"I think you are very nice too, Cloud." Aeris told him. “A very nice man indeed.”

"I think you are more than that, Aeris! I...I..." He began stammering so he had to stop himself. Aeris felt a little pity for him. Clearly, he wanted to let her know something but was having trouble doing so.

"You tell me anything, Cloud. I won't be ashamed." She assured him.

I'm feeling ashamed, Cloud thought. You are so beautiful and kind...and I'm...a tard who can't get his words through.

"Aeris, I think you're beautiful." He whispered. This time, the words came out perfectly. There was no stutter or pauses, just good old truth.

"Thank you, Cloud. You're handsome too." She said honestly. For the fifth time that night, he blushed.

"Um...Aeris?" He began again.

"Hmm?"

"Tonight's a great night." No stutters or pauses that time either.

Aeris smiled. "I know, Cloud. I'm glad we went out."

"We can go out again anytime you like."

She clapped her hands with delight like she had just been given one million gil. "Oh thank you, Cloud!"

~(Whoa whoa) Sha la la la la la, don't be scared!

You've got the mood prepared

Go on and kiss the girl

(Whoa whoa) Sha la la la, don't stop now

Don't try to hide it how

You want to kiss the girl~

"Aeris, I...I..." Cloud began to move in close. He wasn’t sure if this was the right thing to do. But Aeris didn’t pull away or move aside.

"I know what you want." She whispered moving in as well.

Cloud’s eyes widened. "You are aware of it?"

"Yes." Aeris’ breath began fanning his face.

"The fireworks are going off." He noted, listening to the cracking sounds coming from outside. Aeris giggled in response.

"I know. Perfect timing, huh?"

"Yeah." He nodded suddenly feeling more confident. At least, he wasn’t using words like ‘swell’ now.

"I really wonder..." She began to say but stopped. Her lips were only inches away from Cloud’s face.

"You're gonna find out now." Cloud moved in much closer.

~Sha la la la la, float along

And listen to the song

The song say kiss the girl

Sha la la la la, the music play

Do what the music say

You gotta kiss the girl~

"I love you." He whispered in her ear.

"Me too." She whispered back.

~You got to kiss the girl

You wanna kiss the girl...~

The chocobos were peeking in on them as they went by. The song was slowly coming to its end and the two of them were only a centimeter away from each other’s faces.

~You gotta kiss the girl...

Go on and kiss the girl...~

Cloud's lips touched Aeris' and sparks flew between them as the fireworks continued to rip through the sky.  He felt much more content at the moment when he kissed her. She returned that kiss and threw her arms around him, closing her eyes and forgetting where they both were. At that point, the gondola ride came to a stop.

"Yes!" Cait Sith exclaimed as he watched the two get off, hand in hand. Then, congratulating himself on a job well done, he watched in glee as they kissed again.
